CAN has recently participated in a design competition to deliver master planning and architectural design proposals for Dongguan International Manufacturing Centre Headquarters (D’s City) – integrating architecture, technology, and art for the city’s Central Business District.
An addition to Dongguan’s new CBD and situated along Dongguan Avenue, CAN’s proposed scheme comprised of a 32-storey 64,000sqm headquarters tower, a 28-storey 41,400sqm SOHO tower, 5,800sqm of retail, a 2,700sqm multi-purpose hub, and over 4,000sqm of landscaped plaza for public use.
The 154,448 sqm complex is designed with bespoke features to echo the new CBD’s city planning visions – Accessibility, Vitality, Greenery, Charm, and Ventilation. The 12,390sqm site is highly accessible from all sides and at all times with a sophisticated pedestrian-friendly bridge system enhanced by a sunken garden and landscaped terraces to create a multi-layered spatial experience. Meticulous planning for road and foot traffic flow allows for a dedicated drop-off zone and uninterrupted pedestrian circulation. The integration of mixed programmes activates and maximises usage of spaces around the clock.
The 2-storey retail podium and the underground retail street attracts footfall and injects commercial vitality. Ample greenery and sky gardens are interwoven and distributed throughout the office buildings to enhance comfort and leisure for users. A high-end business centre and multi-purpose cultural hub sits at the heart of the development and intentionally placed above ground – serving as an architectural statement and focal point to pay tribute to our client’s manufacturing legacy as well as showcase their most advanced technologies.
“CAN’s design imagines a new model for the central business district by accommodating a new mix of programmes and embracing new technology. Ample greenery and sky gardens are interwoven and distributed throughout the office buildings to enhance comfort and leisure for users. A high-end business centre and multi-purpose cultural hub serve as an urban oasis for the bustling metropolis, “ said Gary Xiong, Director at CAN.
CAN took existing site conditions into consideration to create win-win outcome for our client and the community – highlighting our client’s corporate vision, as well as bringing value-adds and vitality to the new CBD.
